Earth Hour 2009.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Over 74 countries and territories have pledged their support to VOTE EARTH during Earth Hour 2009, and this number is growing everyday.

We all have a vote, and every single vote counts. Together we can take control of the future of our planet, for future generations.

This year, Earth Hour has been transformed into the world’s first global election, between Earth and global warming. For the first time in history, people of all ages, nationalities, race and background have the opportunity to use their light switch as their vote – Switching off your lights is a vote for Earth, or leaving them on is a vote for global warming. WWF are urging the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes, which will be presented to world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

My workplace (Mandarin Oriental Hotel Kuala Lumpur) as well participating in this year Earth Hour, we've been working in a minimum lights for the passed one hour today! It was fun and the best part is, no guests & no phone calls at all!.

Looking forward to join the Earth Hour again next year..

What A Tired Day!

The night before last night, right after work, we (myself, Rahman, Yusnor & Nita) went to Mashita's new house in Sungai Buluh. We plan to stay overnight there to help her out on her house warming 'kenduri' and her daughter's (Nurul) birthday party.

Starting the day early.. getting ready to cook the meal!

Balloons for the kids..

We arrived nearly 11.30pm and nothing has been done yet! Even Zul Johan still not at home buying more things for the kenduri tomorrow. Lucky we was there to help, or else, they have do all this thing by both of them self! We help them to wash and cut the vegetables, do some cleaning, clearing and re-arranging the furniture in the house.. and all was done and ready at 5.30am! We were so damn tired, everybody was flat down on the floor in the living room!!

The next day, Zul Johan woke-up at 6.00am, to buy more food for the kenduri (chicken & meat) and as well to pick-up Mashita's sister, the chef of the day. Yusnoor left the house at 6.30am accompanied by Nita to KLIA to pick-up Izat who just came back from his flight from Chennai. Everybody was starting the day quite early today.. just to make this kenduri and birthday party a success one!

The house warming started by 1.30pm after the jemaah from nearest surau arrived (not so many people.. about 15 of them!) then Mashita and Zul Johan's friends and family started arriving bit by bit. It was a fun day with a lot of small kids around, meeting old friends and new friends! At 4.30pm, birthday party for Nurul started with fun and laughter! She received a lot of gift this year!!

The lovely birthday cake for Nurul!

Nurul and her birthday cake! Yummy!!

The birthday girl with her birthday gifts!

Since I was working at 5.00pm today, I called the hotel to let them know that I'll be late for work (yeah.. as usual!!)! Gosh, I felt so lazy to go to work.. since many friends was around, I really wish I could spend more fun time with them! Overall, it was a fun and tiring day.. and I was so damn exhausted until I can't stand on the floor anymore now! :(

Chris Lim In KL..

It has been 8 months since the last time we met, it was while having lunch with the group in Amarind Thai restaurant in Mid Valley Mega Mall. But Chris Lim did call me once a while to say hello and keeping in touch.. so sweet of him. This time around, he came back with his most talked about girlfriend.. Lulu. Very sweet girl, petite and pretty.

I picked him up at Sheraton Imperial Hotel and then we heading to Pelita Curry House, Jalan Ampang for supper. Allie had waited for us there.. only 4 of us that can make it that night. We had fun chatting and catching-up each other..

Trip To Melaka..

Had planned this trip weeks before with Rahman and the rest of my friends.. it has been a while since the last time I discovered Melaka with Wirdat. I guess it was about 7 or 8 years ago! At the end, only me, Rahman, Rin and Yusnoor made it. But Yusnoor only joined us on the second day.

On the way to Melaka.. hu hu..!

This is where we stayed in Melaka, Mahkota Hotel (used to be Century Mahkota Hotel).

Dataran Pahlawan.. this is where Tunku Abdul Rahman announced on his trip back from London in 1956 that British Govertment had agreed to grant Malaya independence the next year..

The famous Masak Assam Pedas.. yumm.. yumm..!!

Right after Rin finished his morning shift and after picking up Rahman from Berjaya Time Square, we departed Kuala Lumpur with a slow and safe drive. Reached Mahkota Hotel Melaka at 6.30pm and right after check-in, me and Rahman (Rin was so tired and just wanted to have a rest in the hotel!) starting to discover Melaka.. and Masak Assam Pedas! We really had a great time that evening of sightseeing and as well shopping at Dataran Pahlawan!! :)

Jonker Street at night.

St. Paul Hill where the ruin of St. Paul's Church is still exist.. with a breath taking view of Melaka Straits.

Ruin of the famous A Famosa.

Cultural Museum, a replica of palace belongs to Sultan Melaka.

The next morning, Yusnoor arrived at 9.30am (he'd plan to take the first bus out from Kuala Lumpur but only managed to catch a bus at 7.30am!) right after we had our big breakfast at the hotel coffee house (have to, need a lot of energy to walk about in Melaka town!) and checked out from the hotel. Then we started our discovery of Melaka history.. went to St Paul's Hill, St. Paul's Church, the famous A Famosa, Stadhuys Museum, Sultan's Palace (Culture Museum), Taming Sari Tower (latest attraction in Melaka) and a lot more!

Christ Church was built in 1753 and still standing strong exactly as it has always been.. with the Dutch architectural.

Christ Church and Town Square

Sweet corn Cendul from the famous cendul stall near the Clock Tower in Town Square.. slurrppp..!

Bicycle rental cost at only RM8.00 per day.. good deal!

After our Masak Assam Pedas lunch, we decided to rent a bicycle since we are so tired of walking and still a lot more to discover. Not much of shops that rent bicycle nowadays in Melaka but we managed to asked people and there is one bicycle shop that rent a bicycle near Equatorial Hotel in Bandar Hilir. It only cost RM8.00 per day rental, but since we rent it at 3.00pm and have to return it at 8.00pm, the shop owner only charged us RM5.00 (RM1.00 per hours.. cheap aight?!!)

Kampung Keling Mosque is the oldest mosque and also believed to be the first mosque built in Malaysia.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is believed to be the oldest Chinese temple in Malaysia.

Melaka River Cruise.

Rahman was so looking forward to have dinner in Umbai (about 20 minutes drive from Melaka town), the most popular place for grill seafood (and cheap too!). And after our dinner in Umbai, we drive back home to Kuala Lumpur. We really had a great time in Melaka and planning to do more of this kind of activities in future..

Grill seafood that we've ordered! Yummy..!!
