Today, another exciting day for our sightseeing here in the UK. Joe took us to the Chatsworth House and Estates (or more like castle to me.. it was so huge!), but before we heading to Derbyshire, we stop-by at Sheffield town for a quick sightseeing around the area. A very small town but very interesting place to visit. Joe even took us to his Uni (University of Sheffield) just for a short drive through.. so proud of you Joe! :)
Grabbed a packed lunch from Mark & Spencer supermarket (they're everywhere here, even at the highway!) and we ate in the car.
On the way to the Chatsworth, we drove along the countryside again. We drove pass Peak District National Park.. the first national park in Britain which lying mainly in northern Derbyshire, but also covering part of Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Staffordshire and South & West Yorkshire. I really love the countryside here.. it looked so far different from anywhere else. The greens, the cows, the sheeps, the horses, the houses.. all are so beautiful! I was so lucky that Joe took us to this area. All the scenery here was so like the one we always sees in TV!
After about 20 minutes drive in the Peak District, from far I can see the Chatsworth house.. standing proudly in one of the estate belongs to the Duke of Devonshire since 1549.. it has been home of their family, the Cavendish family. Can you imagine the people there at that time? All with white wig hairs, beautiful dresses with mini lace umbrella, riding horses and stuff like that.. gosh, how I wish I can be dressed like that while visiting this estate.. he.. he.. Interesting isn't it?I wish I can own this house!
Enough of that! Anyway, the Chatsworth house is set in expensive parkland, and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland. It's garden was one of the most famous in England. This house contains a unique collection of priceless painting, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artifacts. Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom's favourite country house several times! I can understand why now, it has several gardens, park, lake, river and even a lovely water cascade.
A lot of people visiting the Chatsworth during summer (and that is what we did too!), they had picnic at the garden, walk through the park and a lot of events in this place too during that period.. so we were there at the right time and season. Thanks to Joe that always talk about it to me.. and I was so glad I'd made it to this place..After we spent half day here at the Chatsworth, before heading home, we stopped-by in Bakewell.. a small market town and very famous for their local confection Bakewell Pudding. Unfortunately, when we reached the town, the Bakewell Pudding shop had closed for the day. Instead, we walked down to the Fish & Chips shop and grab a take away. I couldn't believe myself as the original fish & chips from the UK had a very big portion of fish and fries! I guess, the size of the fish and the fries are just right for 2 persons to finish it!
Even I don't really like fish, I eager to try the original Fish & Chips.. just wanted to experience it. We sat on the riverside watching the birds, ducks and swans while having our meal. Before it's getting dark, we grabbed a chance to walk along this small town and enjoying the environment in this lovely and quiet place.. What a wonderful experience!
